White House becoming more hostile to Fox News.
For a White House that said they welcomed criticism they sure don’t like the fact that Fox News is covering them critically. In an attempt to banish Fox News from political discourse, the Whites House is stating that Fox News is not “a news organization”:
“It’s not a news organization so much as it has a perspective, and that’s a different take,” White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel told CNN’s “State of the Union.” “And more importantly, it’s important not to have the CNN’s and the others of the world being led and following Fox, as if what they’re trying to do is a legitimate news organization.”
“It’s not really a news organization,” White House Senior Adviser David Axelrod said on ABC’s’ “This Week.” “We’re going to appear on their shows, we’re going to participate, but understanding they have a point of view.”
The only problem with this strategy is that the White House is now giving the same power to Fox News that it should reserve only for itself: a mega microphone with which to broadcast its point-of-view. You would think that the White House would’ve learned its lesson from tarring Rush Limbaugh, disparaging tea partiers and town hall protesters, and ridiculing Sarah Palin, but nope, this White House is tone deaf to everyone except its own ambitions.
By the way, liberal media outlets take note: once you start becoming critical of Obama you can expect the same to happen to you. This is a bad point in American history when the media comes under assault by a politician. This is to be expected in authoritarian regimes, but not in America. Hmm….
